Tumaco is located at the Nariño department and it's also known as the Pacific Pearl, due to the importance of its sea port. At the previous time to the Spanish conquest, the area was controlled by the Tumaco - La Tolita culture. According to some sources, the foundation of the city took place in 1630 as a shipyard, since its location is quite strategic. Among the festivities that you can enjoy in Tumaco there is the Carnaval del Fuego (the fire carnival), a festival from Tumaco celebrated after Easter where you can contemplate dances, games, parades, troupes and much more; the Festival del Currulao, that looks for maintaining this cultural dancing expression and in this festival participate Colombian artists and people of all age. There is also the Cumpleaños de Tumaco in November, where there is a display of the celebratory nature of the population.
