La Dorada is a colombian municipality located in the eastern extremity of the department of Caldas, in the region of Magdalena Medio. La Dorada is the second most important city in the department, after Caldas, and is the second ranching municipality of Colombia, after Monteria. Also, the city is known as “National bandstand” or “Heart of Colombia”, qualifications given by its strategic geographic location. By the north it limits with Sonson, by the east it limits with the Magdalena river, by the south it limits with the Guarino river, and by the west it limits with Victoria and Norcasia. In 1923, the assembly of Caldas named La Dorada a municipality.
The economy of La Dorada is mainly based on agriculture, gold mining, trade, the small industry and fishing.
