Municipality of Cauca Valley department, Tulua is the fourth city in population of this famous valley. It's also known as the Heart of the Valley, due to its geographic location and Villa of Céspedes, in honor of a hero, during the Independence of Colombia, Juan María Céspedes. There are several tourist sites to see in Tuluá, mainly for their nature. The Parque Nacional Natural Las Hermosas has natural lagoons, paramos, canyons and it's the place where many rivers are born; you can also observe the flora (oaks) and fauna (spectacled bear) typical of the region. Another interesting option is the Parque de la Guadua Guillermo Ponce de Leon Paris, an artificial park with bamboo and guadua (a plant similar to bamboo), unusual flowers, a natural water pool and the Park offers the possibility of going through many trails. We can't forget to mention the Bothanic Garden Juan Maria Cespedes, located at 7 kms from Tulua's city, and where you can appreciate the flora of Cauca Valley. Regarding the gastronomy, we will name some delicious dishes that you can not miss: sancocho de gallina, morcilla and tamal. The chuletas del Cauca are exquisite escalopes of meat, also a delicacy. Tulua celebrates its most important festival in May-June, Tulua Fair, where you can find stockbreeder exhibitions, handicrafts, concerts and a very traditional cavalcade. Other celebrations that deserve to be mentioned are: Festival Internacional de Contadores de Cuentos y Leyendas (for stories tellers) and the Festival del Corazon Dulce (in June), Festival del Mate y el Guarapo (May) and the Festival de Cometas (Kite's festival) in august, among others.
