The municipality of Florencia is the capital of the Caqueta department and it's called the Gold Door of the Colombian Amazonia, for being the link between the Andean region and the Amazonian territory. The city looks for its position as the ecotourist capital of the country, reason why locals promote events to encourage the eco-friendly care and the city is a space where nature live together with colonial buildings and other contemporaneous in perfect harmony. The most representatives tourist sites include waterfalls as La Novia or Nuevo Jerusalen, Los Guacharos cave or the Moniya Amena trail and historic buildings as the Curiplaya building, the Banco de la Republica building or the Plaza del Mercado La Concordia. Some of the gastronomic delights of Florencia are dishes as sancocho de gallina, casabe (similar to the arepa but, with yuca) and pescado moquiado, prepared under the ground and wrapped in banana leafs. The most important dates in Florencia are the Festival Nacional de Musica Andina y Campesina y El Colono de Oro, that begining December the musicians compete in categories as instrumental, vocal, unpublished composition and farmer music; the Festival y Reinado Nacional de la Ecologia in November, where there is a beauty competition that stands out the importance in ecology topics. Ending October, the Encuentro Internacional de la Cultura Amazonica, where there are performances of folkloric traditions, gastronomy and costumes among others.
