Arboletes is part of the Antioquia department; its name is due to the origins of the surroundings that in the past were thick forests (árbol means tree in Spanish) that with the passage of time dissapeared and were converted in the stockbreeder industry that nowadays sustains the municipality. From the beginning in the 20th century Arboletes have been an entrance to commercial exchanges and has a population from diverse municipalities of the proximities. The most appealing attraction is the volcano Lodo, located on the seashore, that attracts a lot of visitors from all over the world due to its healing properties; but also several beaches that offer a quiet place to the traveller. You can taste its varied gastronomy, that includes dishes as cabeza de gato (cat's head), arroz con coco (rice with coconut), a delicious sancocho de res and a variety of preparations with fishes and shellfish. The most famous festivals of Arboletes include the Festival de la Expresión Cultural del Mar and El Volcan in June, the Festival del Retorno in January that consists mainly in the traditional corralejas and the Festival Regional de la Cumbia in November, with handmade fairs, music shows and dances.
