Dabeiba is a colombian municipality located in the Department of Antioquia. The city was founded on the 3rd of November of 1850, and it’s located in a territory previously occupied by the Katíos people. The settlement was named after Dabeiba Hernández, a colombian lady which sheltered the first spanish pioneers. A different account states the name comes from a Katío deity of the same name, who taught the natives everything they knew about their way of life. Debeiba became a fluvial port over the Morindó River, and its settlement contributed to the Expansion of Antioquia to the north-west of the colombian territory.Nowadays Dabeiba has around 23 000 residents, and its economy is based in agriculture and the wood industry, and is widely known for its many natural heritage sites.
